Butterbrote - Bread With Butter

Butterbrote (Chocolate biscuits)

These are "Easter Biscuits", specially made for Easter time. We call them in Austria "Bread with butter biscuits" as they remind of it... the black chocolate cookie base resembles the bread, the white-yellowish glaze stands for the butter and the chopped pistacchios would be the chives. Cute, innit? ;-)) .... These are the perfect chocolate biscuits!


They are very easy to make:
RECIPE
INGREDIENTS
100 g grated dark chocolate
80 g ground hazelnuts
120 g butter
1 egg yolk
150 g white flour
Glaze:
1 egg yolk
just enough powdered sugar to mix a thick paste
chopped unsalted pistacchios

Just knead all the ingredients, and leave to rest in the fridge for at least 30 mins.
Form strings of ca. 3 cm diameter and cut off slices of half a centimeter. Put on a baking tray. Bake at 180°C for approx. 12 mins or until they are done.
Mix the egg yolk with the powdered sugar to a thickish paste and glaze the biscuits. Sprinke with the pistacchios. Leave dry in the oven at 40°C until the glaze is hardened.
